Somonauk is located in the heartland of America, nestled amongst the best farm land in the world. The village was platted in 1855 and became a corporation in 1859. The area is primarily rural, but has a well-rounded cross section of representitive businesses, both commercial and professional. With a 2000 census count of 1295, many of these residents are employed here and in nearby metropolitan areas.
